  • Dan I Locks - Jah Is Love / Ashanti Selah - Power Of Creation 12" Ashanti Selah Music

Dan I Locks - Jah Is Love / Ashanti Selah - Power Of Creation 12" Ashanti Selah Music

    £14.99
It’s that time to deliver some fresh vibes in the most finest form as what we would present to be the tenth release from the Ashanti Selah Music label featuring a deep and heavy 12” alongside, Swedish reggae artist; Dan I Locks, as featured on other releases such as ‘Solid Foundation’, ‘Glorious Days’ and ‘Better Be Careful’ - is now stepping up to forefront once again; with some more powerful word sounds ‘Jah is Love’ – coming complete with trilogy of dub versions – This one is sure to bring that dancing feeling again to your mind, soul and body!

This release project incorporates the essence of which both Ashanti Selah & Dan I Locks are best known for individually bringing that ancient sound of Nyahbinghi transitioned into the power of the modern roots steppers style (most profound through the sound system); which you can clearly hear infused within the mix –  comforting the sound of the Drum & Bass; emphasised by the Kette & Thunderdrum. There is also an array of bells and retro-influenced synth melodic elements accompanying around the vocal arrangement enforced with an addition of traditional spring reverb licks & strong feed-backed delays throughout the dubbed versions of the creational work!
  • Answer 2021 Riddim - Luciano, Mikey General, Sr. Wilson, Johnny Go figure, DJ MADD 12" Dub-Stuy

Answer 2021 Riddim - Luciano, Mikey General, Sr. Wilson, Johnny Go figure, DJ MADD 12" Dub-Stuy

    £14.99

After a year-long hiatus, Dub-Stuy heralds the return of good vibes with a new installment in their riddim series. This time, they take on one of the most iconic and instantly recognizable riddims in history with “Answer 2021 Riddim”. As usual, Dub-Stuy calls upon an international line-up of top features, led by legendary duo Luciano & Mikey General, Spain’s Sr Wilson and Brooklyn’s own Jonny GoFigure.

The Answer riddim, originally recorded by Clement “Coxsone” Dodd for Slim Smith in 1967, is undoubtedly one of the most versioned riddims of all time, and everyone from Dennis Brown to Frankie Paul has lent their hand to the tune. For this 2021 spin on the classic, DJ Madd invokes early digital productions ala Prince Jammy and Bobby Digital but with the signature Dub-Stuy twist: high-powered, heavyweight and minimalist production. Bouncy, rubber-band basslines and hypnotic snare hits make Answer 2021 Riddim danceable and upbeat, bringing to mind late summer nights dancing with friends as the selector rides the groove.

Leading the charge on the vocals, Luciano and Mikey General return to their top form, bringing us back to the heyday of late 90's roots revival. With their soaring harmonies and golden voices, “Redemption” calls for a return to conscious music while uplifting the listener, with an infectious hook. Sr. Wilson comes next, with his ‘Foodie session’, uniting the world over a shared love for street food cultures. Finally, hometown sensation Jonny GoFigure mashes up the dance lyrically on ‘A Different Answer’.

Answer 2021 isn’t just a riddim; It's a sonic cure to our collective anxiety in these uncertain times, bringing people together and inviting them to take a deep breath, close their eyes, and crank up their stereo.

  • Alpine Sound - Withy Step / All Bases 12" Last Days Of Rome

Alpine Sound - Withy Step / All Bases 12" Last Days Of Rome

    £14.99
Alpine Sound is a new production unit based out of Withington S.Manchester. Heavily inspired by the rich lineage of militant steppas producers that have come from the UK and beyond, they put their own unique take on the genre - keeping things heavy, meditative and ready for any dance. Their first eponymous single starts with Withy Step, a bouncy, sub-loaded and locally-inspired weapon designed to shake up the dancefloor. On the flip is All Bases, which gets heads down and legs gliding with the submerged atmosphere it creates. Both clock in at 140 BPM - rude DJs better get 2 know!
  • Nazamba, Linval Thompson & O.B.F - Curfew 12" Dubquake Records

Nazamba, Linval Thompson & O.B.F - Curfew 12" Dubquake Records

    £14.99

“Curfew” is the first installement of the new collaborative series between Thompson Sound and Dubquake Records for Nazamba’s forthcoming project.

The idea sparked when legendary singer/producer Linval Thompson met Rico O.B.F. He asked if Rico wanted to rework stems from some of his label’s classic tracks from the 70s and 80s.

First track from this collaboration “Curfew” by Linval Thompson, played by the Roots Radics, was initialy released in 1980. The song was written as Jamaica was going through a civil war. Political conflicts between the JLP and the PNP, the country’s two main political parties, turned to the streets and over 800 Jamaicans perished to the violence. Linval sings about the curfew and the police oppression that took place during this troubled time.

Nazamba adds his dub-poetry on “Curfew Drop”, which draws a parallel between the original track and the recent worldwide lockdowns.

Rico OBF went IN on the instrumental and the crowd-pleasing “Fufu Dub” mix. Flip the record for a sweet remix of Aza Lineage’s “Rebel Daawtaz” and Charlie P’s “Hustler” on the same riddim.

  • Cornell Campbell - Time For Peace 12" Jancro

Cornell Campbell - Time For Peace 12" Jancro

    £13.99

Legendary Reggae vocalist Cornell Campbell is to release a new E.P entitled ‘Time For Peace’, to mark the 52nd Anniversary of Martin Luthur King Jr’s assassination, 4th April 2021(Digital release! Vinyl released 9/9/21).

Taking its title from Cornell’s lyrical addition to Black Man In A White World, “I want you to understand, I need, I need everyone to hang on, in love, peace and unity”, the new 12” EP features bold interpretations of two of soul music's most iconic songs about race, identity and injustice.

Both Michael Kiwanuka’s ‘Black Man In A White World’ and ‘Outernational Blues’ - a take on the Marvin Gaye classic ‘Inner City Blues’ - evoke the sentiment and spirit of MLK’s peaceful protest, and act as a reminder as to the importance of grace, pride and dignity in difficult times. Capturing a unique combination of vocal vulnerability and wisdom, this is music that demands deep listening. Cornell Campbell’s voice at 75, carries a new found poignancy and depth of emotion; one which feels perfectly suited to delivering an elders perspective on such emotionally loaded topics.

The E.P was recorded and produced over four countries, with the music for all tracks having been recorded in London, England at The Total Refreshment Centre, before being voiced in Kingston Jamaica at Anchor Studios. Additional backing vocals were added at Heritage Recording Co in Burbank, California, before the track was finally mixed and produced by Sergio Lopez, in Andalucia, Spain.

‘Time For Peace’ is the first in a series of four releases from icons of reggae, including ‘Time For Love’ by Tabby Diamond, of The Mighty Diamonds, ‘Time For Change’ by Fred Locks and ‘Time For Unity’ by Big Youth; all to be released on limited 12” vinyl.

Pluto Pluck - The Good Thing / I Want You Now 12" PBS TRS

    £16.99
TRS Records is proud to announce the long-awaited reissue of this undercover gemstone. “Anything other than gospel music was a sin,” Rudolph “Pluto Pluck” Richards said of his formative years on Hagley Park Road near Half Way Tree in Kingston, Jamaica. Despite his strict Christian upbringing, the wafts of music and smoke pouring in from neighbourhood dancehall parties were too great an allure. By the time he was a young man, his head was swirling with “girls, parties, fun stuff,” Richards recalled. Taking inspiration from times spent in the presence of local celebrity Bob Marley— who would often greet him with a “wah happen yout”. Richards crafted “The Good Thing” in 1981. Issued under the name Pluto Pluck on Wesley Wint’s Prospect Heights, Brooklyn-based PLD concern, “The Good Thing” is a dreamy and addictive reggae expression of romance and youthful discovery.
  • Andy Tosh - Lick A Shot / Frankie Wilmott -Sensimilla 13" Sipho TRS

Andy Tosh - Lick A Shot / Frankie Wilmott -Sensimilla 13" Sipho TRS

    £14.99
2019 is off to a hot start as TRS present this double sided Digi-thriller from 1987 produced by Ras Sipho. Originally released on his uncle Jimmy Cliff's Oneness label, Newton “Sipho” Merritt learned his production craft from the best being naturally exposed to the music and destined to become a producer himself. In the days when Reggae was taking a digital turn, Sipho took on the duties of bringing up rising artists of that time such as Andy Tosh and Frankie Willmott to name a few. Both here featured with 'Lick A Shot" and 'Sensimilla' (aka Give Me No Rock) resurfaced here again. As far as the name "Sipho" goes, Merritt explains that when he was in South Africa, on tour with the Oneness band he saw a local woman in tears, looking at him. Through an interpreter, he found out her son had been killed in a South African uprising, looked exactly like him. “I told her that I will be her new son, but I didn’t have an African name. She called me Sipho, which means gifted in Zulu. That’s what I go by."

  • Special High Twilight Meets The Twilight Tone 12" Ubiquity (7 Tracks)

Special High Twilight Meets The Twilight Tone 12" Ubiquity (7 Tracks)

    £12.99
Side A of the single features The Twilite Tone's original track "Lovin' On High" inspired by Twilight's original "Love's High" with his version taking on a decidely more sultry, smoke-filled and hazy quality replete with swinging off kilter drums, droney warbled syth bass and whispery vocals washing in and out of the groove. Tone's take of "We'll Be Special" on the flip showcases his talent in creating a classic dance remix, highlighting his roots in Chicago's house scene. The mid-tempo 4 on the floor beat is backed by a rolling, seemingly reversed bassline and interspersed with the beautiful vocal melodies and acoustic guitar rhythm from the original. Introduced and brought into the mix at Ubiquity by fellow Chicago native and noted House/Disco producer Zernell, Anthony Khan aka Twilite Tone has a long and varied music history and is accredited for bringing a wide variety of music to the Chicago club scene which bridged the gaps between musical genres in Chicago. A Grammy-nominated, BMI Award winning artist, he's currently working with artists such as Kanye West, Cody Chestnutt, Pusha T, Justin Vernon (Bon Iver), Rainy Milo, Judith Hill, Common and others. Tone was recently featured in Billboard Magazine's Back to Brill: New York's Top Publishers Unite to Bring Creative Buzz Back to the City and chosen by Downtown Music Publishing to lead their New York City based writers. He co-wrote 3 tracks on Kanye West's & GOOD Music's Cruel Summer including the lead single "Mercy" which reached No.1 on Billboard's US Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and US Rap Songs Charts and went 2x Platinum, "Don't Like.1", and "The One". Tone contributed on the tracks "MILF" and "Mona Lisa" on Big Sean's sophomore album, Hall Of Fame, released by GOOD Music and Def Jam Recordings. He also co-wrote "Who Do We Think We Are" and "What If I Told You (Interlude)" on John Legend's Grammy-nominated album Love Is The Future. Tone's most recent work comes via Pusha T "Nosetalgia" featuring Kendrick Lamar, a standout track on My Name Is My Name. Responsible for crafting Common's sound, and now working as his music director, Khan has clocked more than two dozen years in the music industry.

  • Luv N'Haight Edit Series Vol.4: Black Renaissance Feat. GB - Magic Ritual 12" Luv N Haight

Luv N'Haight Edit Series Vol.4: Black Renaissance Feat. GB - Magic Ritual 12" Luv N Haight

    £15.99
The fourth volume in the Luv N’Haight Edit Series features a re-work of Harry Whitaker’s Black Rennaisance classic “Magic Ritual” by GB (Gifted & Blessed). The deep spiritual vibe of the original is present in the edit/remix but is transformed into an electronic, percussion-heavy beast. Harry Whitaker’s Black Rennaisance "Body, Mind, and Spirit," album is considered a holy grail amongst collectors of soul-jazz and rare groove, and an album so rare it's virtually a myth to many. Luv N’Haight’s re-issue of the album in the early 2000’s brought much needed attention and focus to this legendary piece of work. Widely known for his work using the pseudonym GB, Gabriel Reyes-Whittaker is a producer, composer and electronic musician with a particular enthusiasm for analog electronics. Though his music ranges wide stylistically, he classifies his work under the umbrella term technoindigenous studies; the integration of the technological with the spiritual and ancestral. Armed with this concept, he transforms “Magic Ritual” into a brooding, techno-afro dance tune that borders on meditation with it’s repetitive, hypnotic percussion. GB finds himself in the unique position of being an early champion of the Los Angeles beat movement as well as being at the forefront of the current underground house and techno scene, all while keeping a low profile. Reyes-Whittaker has collaborated with a long list of creative minds, among them J*DaVeY, Spacek, Airto and Flora Purim, Jody Watley and many others.

Black Randy - Down At The Laundromat / Give It Up Or Turn It Loose 12 Luv N Haight

    £7.99
Ubiquity's founder Michael McFadin spent most of his youth on the burgeoning Southern California punk rock scene. Later when he became a DJ during the rare groove era there was one record from his past that was a quirky staple in his sets "Down At The Laundry Mat" by Black Randy and The Metro Squad. "Whenever I play it someone asks me about it and I've never grown tired of it" says Michael "so we decided to rerelease it". Most commonly known for its inclusion on the single-sided, clear vinyl Yes LA compilation that was released on the Dangerhouse label and also included songs by The Germs, The Bags and others. The flip "Give It Up Or Turn It Loose" was on the only album by Black Randy and The Metro Squad "Pass The Dust, I Think I'm Bowie" and is a freaked out, garagey, ritalin-infused version of this JB classic!
