Burial - Dreamfear / Boy Sent From Above 12" XL Recordings
£14.99"Dreamfear" is structured like a night out gone sideways. Breakbeats and samples about ecstasy rub shoulders with samples such as "your love is a drug," before an honestly kind of disturbing (and delightfully cheesy) nu-metal sample: "Back from the dead / Fucked up in the head" repeats over a groaning synth melody, like a nightmarish inversion of the angel-in-the-back-alleys reveries of early Burial. Everything sounds dirtier and fuzzier, and decades-old samples of The Prodigy and Richie Hawtin only add to the eerie feeling that you've been here before. If "Dreamfear" is the bad trip, "Boy Sent From Above" is when the substances start to wear off and you can see and hear clearly again. Untrue-style R&B samples (Monica's "Angel Of Mine") float over a peppy breakbeat sample, eventually climaxing into a bleary-eyed synth horn refrain that hints at both '80s freestyle and early prog house—a swelling of conflicted emotion that feels like the work of a more mature Burial, a grizzled old raver rather than the misty-eyed bedroom poet of the old days. Both this one (and its crunchy ending) and "Dreamfear" have a narrative flow and easy cohesion that Burial has been aiming at for the last ten years but sometimes missing for the sake of pure ambition. They're like hardcore continuum versions of Brian Wilson's pocket symphonies spread out across lengthy slabs of amphetamine-frazzled beats that swoop in and out like fractured flashbacks. -

Fela Kuti - Original Sufferhead LP Knitting Factory Records
£23.99 This edition of ‘Original Sufferhead’ is a majorevent. With the release of ‘Box Set #5’, and nowon this reissue, the title track of this magnificentalbum is presented in its full-length, 25 minutes, 24seconds glory. While preparing the master disc for the box set,Partisan engineer Jedi, Colin Young, discoveredfour minutes of ‘lost’ material on the B-side of theoriginal pressing, including a superb keyboard soloby Fela. This had been omitted from subsequentreissues. The restored version used here starts and finisheswith Fela’s keyboard work, a typically venturesomeblend of futurism and visceralism. ‘Original Sufferhead’ was the first album Felareleased with the name Egypt 80 (he haddisbanded Afrika 70 in 1979). On the title track, arguing from the personal to thepolitical, Fela describes the inhuman treatmentand poor living conditions experienced by workingclass Nigerians, the people he called ‘sufferheads’. In ‘Power Show’, Fela sings about the two-tiersystem dividing Nigerian society, in which the richget treated one way and the poor another. LP pressed on ewuro (opaque light green) vinyland housed in a single sleeve jacket. -
Fela Kuti - O.D.O.O. (Overtake Don Overtake Overtake) LP Knitting Factory Records
£23.99 ‘Overtake Don Overtake Overtake’ was thepenultimate album of newly recorded studiomaterial released by Fela before he passed in1997. Like its immediate predecessor, ‘Beasts Of NoNation’ (also 1989), and its follow up,‘Underground System’ (1992), the album finds Felacontinuing to campaign for human rights and socialchange despite the relentless beatings, jailingsand general harassment he had received fromsuccessive military regimes since the start of the1970s. LP pressed on alawọ ewe (transparent green)vinyl, housed in a single sleeve jacket. -
Fela Kuti - Ikoyi Blindness LP Knitting Factory Records
£23.99 Fela used the cover of ‘Ikoyi Blindness’ to announcehis change of middle name from Ransome, which henow considered a slave name, to Anikulapo, whichmeans ‘he who carries death in his pouch.’ The frontcover shows Ransome crossed out and Anikulapoadded above it. Fela also used the album cover to announce theAfricanisation of Africa 70’s name, changing it to Afrika70. In the title track, Fela draws attention to theeconomic chasm separating the haves and have-notsof Nigerian society, contrasting the get-rich-at-all-costsmindset of the residents of the prosperous Lagossuburb Ikoyi with the more community-minded attitudeof the poor inhabitants of the Mushin, Maroko,Ajegunle and Somolu neighbourhoods. Ikoyi residentsare blind to the sufferings of less fortunate people, saidFela. Fela returns to the topic on the second track, ‘Gba MiLeti Ki N’Dolowo (Slap Me Make I Get Money)’. InLagos in 1975 and 1976, there had been an upsurge inpolice and military personnel assaults on people in thestreet; motorists were commonly pulled out of theirvehicles and given a whipping for minor trafficoffenses. Scandalously, the police and soldiers werebeing allowed to get away with corruption in broaddaylight. In the lyric, Fela demands that the judiciaryadminister the law equally, without fear or favour. LP pressed on iresi (opaque white) vinyl housed in asingle sleeve jacket. -
Congo Natty - Jungle Revolution • 10th Anniversary Edition LP Big Dada
£30.00 Congo Natty aka Rebel MC has a career dating back to his early hit with Double Trouble, ‘Street Tuff’, but is probably most respected as one of the pioneers of Jungle - perhaps the first uniquely UK born bass music. ‘Jungle Revolution’ features Benny Page (on the straight up ragga-jungle of ‘UK Allstars’), Vital Elements (the 150bpm anthem ‘Jah Warriors’ and ‘Jungle Is I and I’), Serial Killaz (the pure roots bounce and rinse out of ‘Get Ready’) and Boyson & Crooks (creeping technoid paranoia on ‘London Dungeons’) and was mixed with Adrian Sherwood. The LP clearly lays out the way in which Congo Natty sees Jungle as a re-boot of roots reggae for a new century. Full of blood and fire, the sternumbuzz of sub-bass, rapid fire drum breaks, sweet hooks, righteous anger and professions of love, it’s the kind of passionate, committed, raw and spiritual, beautiful record that doesn’t come along that often. Originally released in June 2013, this 10th anniversary edition comprises yellow and green coloured double vinyl cased in a reflective goldsle sleeve with the same artwork as the original.Download code included. For fans of Barrington Levy, General Levy, Benny Page, Shy FX, David Rodigan, Tenor Fly. -
Parly B - Lyrics Spree LP Scotch Bonnet
£18.99For half a decade, Doncaster deejay Parly B has been a fixture of the UK and international sound system scene. His first album on Glasgow’s Scotch Bonnet Records, Lyrics Spree, builds on 2016’s EP 'This Is Digital’.Blessed with a voice as deep as Bounty Killer’s, a crowing gimmick reminiscent of the great Dennis Alcapone and a bottomless bag of verbosity, Parly is the complete microphone talker. He rides a shopping trolley load of digital rhythms by likeminded producers – including Danny T & Tradesman, Stalawa, Interrupt and Mungo’s Hi Fi – ranging from upbeat celebratory skanks to sweltering body winds.Tracks include the exuberant 80s vibes of the title tune, the brass-driven UK sound of You Mi A Look featuring fellow Mungo’s mic man Charlie P, and the moody reality chant Skylark. Lyrics Spree is infectious, verbally dexterous dancehall, spraying lyricism in your direction… -

The tried and true chemistry between Bailey and producer Leon Michels strikes again, taking the sound they established on Bailey's 2020 Ekundayo album and pushing it further. The A side "Dance With Me" is an infectious Popcorn two-stepper that nods to those incredible soul records that were coming out of Jamaica during the early Reggae days. Bailey steps into the dance with hopes of finding a new love while the El Michels Affair produced track will pull us all out on the dance floor with them. The B side "Mercy Tree" is a powerhouse of Reggae Rebel Music. Bailey addresses the racial tensions that plague humanity and encourages everyone to step up and do their part to help foster equality. Mungo's Hi-Fi Feat. Charlie P – You See Me Star LP Scotch Bonnet
£19.99Charlie P is a raggamuffin rudeboy youth with a natural talent for music. He first appeared on stage at the age of 5 and there are some grainy youtube videos of him performing as a child. He started out singing motown and blues but reggae was in his blood since he grew up surrounded by UK-Jamaican culture. He started singing with the Goldmaster Allstars at the age of 11, but was soon drawn to soundsystems which is where he feels most at home. His uncle had been running a sound in Southend on Sea and it was his mother who encouraged him in his career.Charlie first came to Glasgow in 2010 for one of Mungo’s Hi Fi’s legendary nights at the Artschool. This was the beginning of their working relationship which has seen countless recording sessions and continuous touring around every corner of the globe. This album is the culmination of this ongoing relationship and brings together the best tracks across the styles that he loves, from roots reggae and dancehall to modern bass music. Some are surprised to see a young white guy with a Jamaican accent, but it is his musical language and Charlie is not pretending to be anything but himself - a man with a passion for good ganja and reggae dancehall. -

Crown Jewels Vol. 3 LP Big Crown Records
£25.99Big Crown is proud to present Crown Jewels Vol. 3.As we are approaching seven years as a label these compilations have given us an opportunity to put the different artists on the label together on the same release. These compilations are something of a calling card for the "Big Crown Sound" where we get to put the most well established next to the newest on the roster and through that paint a picture of the overall ethos of the label. It’s been extremely satisfying for us when the fans of one Big Crown artist discover another one because they are label mates. We put out these Crown Jewels comps with the hope that it will continue that process. Even though not all BCR artists can be found in the same aisle of the record store, after listening to Crown Jewels Vol. 3, it should be clear how they all fit on the same record label. When we started Big Crown we wanted to have a label that’s only boundaries were defined by our taste, not by genre. Seven years later, we can say we have been able to do that. There is a sound, but that sound stretches into a lot of different directions, but that sound is uniquely ours. Thank you to everyone who has supported us thus far and please stay tuned as we continue pushing our sound and putting out tunes we believe in. Limited Edition Jewel Pile Colour Vinyl!

Night Owls - Ain't That Loving You / Are You Lonely For Me, Baby 7" F-Spot Records
£13.99It's a Night Owls sound system takeover once again, bringing the band's unique Jamaican twist on classic soul hits to listeners worldwide. Not too long ago, Night Owls graced us with their best-selling 45 to date, yet somehow they've managed to raise the bar once more with their next offering; "Ain't That Loving You (feat. Chris Murray)" b/w "Are You Lonely For Me, Baby (feat. Malik Moore)" on the flip.
Side A features Johnnie Taylor's Stax classic "Ain't That Loving You" flipped on its head, taking this sweet ballad to new dancehall heights. The song has a long history with Jamaican music having been covered by legends like Alton Ellis, Prince Buster, U Roy, Delroy Wilson, Hortense Ellis and Dennis Brown and, in America, by Black Moses himself, Isaac Hayes. Night Owls' version sits somewhere in between the classic versions with a hot and heavy feel aimed at getting you on your feet. Calling upon former King Apparatus singer, Slackers cohort and Ska troubadour Chris Murray, Night Owls have perfectly balanced their tough-as-nails riddim with Murray's soulful and sympathetic vocal delivery on top. "Ain't That Loving You" comes complete with catchy organ riffs, classic syn-drum hits and backing harmony support from special guest, The Expanders' John Butcher.Side B is a corker too, with longtime friend and collaborator Malik Moore (The Lions, The Bullets, Ocean 11) truly owning the soul classic, "Are You Lonely For Me, Baby", originally released on Bert Berns' legendary Shout! label in 1966, with his commanding reedy and soulful tenor. Whether it's the Freddie Scott or Al Green version you know best, Night Owls bring you a fresh and fiery take on the song by adding their signature bounce, based loosely on U Roy's "Stick Together" riddim, while keeping the presence of Scott's original alive and well thanks to Moore's deep and immediate delivery. "Are You Lonely For Me, Baby" also features the iconic backing harmonies from Night Owls' #1 on call soul sister, Destani Wolf. -
