  • Akae Beka - Black Carbon Feat: Chronixx 7" Before Zero Records

Akae Beka - Black Carbon Feat: Chronixx 7" Before Zero Records

    £12.99
Two of the deepest thinkers in reggae music, Vaughn Benjamin and Chronixx, trade reflections on their collaboration, 'Black Carbon.' Originally released on the 2021 album 'Polarities,' the song is available for the first time as a vinyl single, backed by its dub version. Adorned with the swirling flute of Sheldon Bernard (Beres Hammond, Harmony House) and David Pransky’s brittle, Kora-like mandolin, the twin reggae intellects, with their uniquely delicate voices, introspect on how 'all ah we forward from the same carbon.' The song's message juxtaposes the unity that binds us with a critique of the prevailing narratives and structures that weaken this bond. It underscores the universal truth that we all originate from the same elemental blackness—a truth mirrored throughout humanity and the entire spectrum of creation. Yet, it pointedly highlights how this shared essence is often unrecognised or undervalued in the social and political realms, especially for nations and diasporas connected by the original human hue. The A-side vocal mix is followed by Tippy I’s lavish, questing dub, bringing the instrumentation to the fore. Produced by Vaughn and Zion I Kings.
  • Akae Beka - Sow And The Reap 7" Before Zero Records

Akae Beka - Sow And The Reap 7" Before Zero Records

    £12.99
Sagacious reggae lyricist Vaughn Benjamin’s words are particularly cutting during Sow And The Reap, the final recording of Vaughns immense catalog of works with I Grade Records. Produced by Zion I Kings, and taken from 2021’s album Polarities, Sow And The Reap folds topics of political dominance, mass migration, and injustice into a thought provokingly coherent whole. The song brims with Vaughn’s characteristic dual-meaning word-play, using evocative metaphors of nature and agriculture to illuminate global policy. Sow And The Reap’s timeless lyrical principles are matched by its inexorable reggae rhythm, featuring hefty programmed drums by Romain “Teflon Zincfence” Arnett, and sombre trombone and space age synth, both supplied by much missed multi-instrumentalist Drew Keys. Backed by its correspondingly haunting dub.
  • Akae Beka - Everything Bless (Feat. Tiken Jah Fakoly 7" Before Zero Records

Akae Beka - Everything Bless (Feat. Tiken Jah Fakoly 7" Before Zero Records

    £12.99
Two lyrical and spiritual forces meet, as Akae Beka and Ivorian veteran Tiken Jah Fakoly awaken the profound realisation that all is inherently blessed, encouraging us to accept life as it unfolds. Produced by Zion I Kings, Everything Bless is a gentle yet powerful reminder to embrace the present moment, cherish the divine connection with our spiritual kin, and nurture inner peace and contentment. Vaughn Benjamin meditates on the need for both determination and trust, while the ancient voiced Tiken sings in Bambara, over Mamadou Sidiki Diabate’s cascading Kora, reassuring that Jah will guide. The accompanying dub version pares down drums and vocals, maintaining the same sense of joy. Taken from 2021’s album Polarities, Everything Bless is released as a seven inch vinyl single for the first time on via Before Zero Records.

  • Creation Rebel - Psychotic Jonkanoo LP On-U Sound

Creation Rebel - Psychotic Jonkanoo LP On-U Sound

    £22.99
First time available on vinyl since 1982. Psychotic Jonkanoo was the sixth Creation Rebel album in three years, originally licensed to the post-punk oriented Glaswegian label Statik. Another solid set of killer dub, albeit less instrumentally inclined than their previous efforts and more focussed on militant-style conscious chants. Bandleader Crucial Tony was aided on the vocal front by harmonies from other group members, in a style reminiscent of Black Uhuru, plus the occasional guest such as John Lydon of the Sex Pistols and Public Image Limited providing backing harmony (!) on “Mother Don’t Cry”, and the legendary Deadly Headley Bennett adding saxophone to the opening track.
“Anybody searching Adrian Sherwood's catalogue for an easy point of entry would do well to start here, and everyone else can simply applaud Psychotic Jonkanoo as the last truly great roots reggae album of the 1980s.” All Music
  • Creation Rebel - Starship Africa LP On-U Sound

Creation Rebel - Starship Africa LP On-U Sound

    £22.99
A true dub classic – backwards tapes drenched in interplanetary sound effects, ghostly voices from beyond the stars and ringing percussion. Featuring members of the Roots Radics, Misty In Roots and Prince Far I’s Arabs. Recently voted #1 in Mojo Magazine’s How To Buy… On-U Sound feature as their most recommended release in the entire catalogue.
  • Creation Rebel - Rebel Vibrations LP On-U Sound

Creation Rebel - Rebel Vibrations LP On-U Sound

    £22.99
A rare early album by Creation Rebel back in print for the first time since 1979. Rebel Vibrations was originally issued by the pre-On-U Sound label Hitrun. The rhythms stem from one of the first recording sessions organised by maverick producer Adrian Sherwood, taking advantage of ace Jamaican drummer Lincoln “Style” Scott, sticksman for the Roots Radics, visiting the UK for the first time.
Pairing him up with UK-based players such as Crucial Tony, Lizard Logan, Doctor Pablo and Clifton Morrison, the result is a set of tough and uncompromising dub tunes, or as Sherwood describes it: “a structure of suppressed rhythms and unique possibilities in sonic space.”
  • Creation Rebel - Close Encounters Of The Third World LP On-U Sound

Creation Rebel - Close Encounters Of The Third World LP On-U Sound

    £22.99
A sublime set of roots, vocal and dubbed out instrumental magic, Close Encounters Of The Third World is a real lost gem in the treasure-filled Creation Rebel back catalogue. A true cross-atlantic collaboration - initial rhythm tracks were laid down in London in 1978, with horns and vocals overdubbed at Channel One in Jamaica, before bandleader Crucial Tony returned to London with the tapes for the album to be mixed by a visiting Prince Jammy.
Originally released on pre-On-U Sound label Hitrun, and the second album released by the group chronologically. Unavailable for 45 years, it has been carefully pieced back together, for this new edition featuring extended 12” discomix versions of “Beware” and “Natty Conscience Free”, re-cut by Frank Merritt at The Carvery. Includes new sleevenotes by reggae scholar David Katz that tells the story of the album in full, plus download card.
  • Danny T & Tradesman – Mercy ft Capleton 12" Scotch Bonnet Records EP

Danny T & Tradesman – Mercy ft Capleton 12" Scotch Bonnet Records EP

    £10.95

Great vocals from Capleton and Jr Cat on driving UK steppers riddims. Leeds' finest reggae rhythm constructors are back with an industrial strength combination enlisting two of Jamaica's top lyricists. Following the success of their last 12 inch release, Up Deh with Mark Iration, the duo have laid down two heavy duty slabs of pure sound system mayhem. Mercy features the unmistakable voice and flammable lyrics of ferocious rockstone deejay Capleton. Thunderclap gives a similarly hard stepping backdrop to the younger brother of Supercat, Junior Cat, who carries the hypnotic family style. The Capleton vocal comes with a pair of spiky, heavily filtered dubs, making mass movement a must. This release was originally due to come out in 2020, but got locked down in the lockdown and is now back due to popular demand.

  • Let's Do Rock Steady (The Soul of Jamaica) • Trojan Records

Let's Do Rock Steady (The Soul of Jamaica) • Trojan Records

    £29.99

The immediate successor to ska, the soulful, melodic sound of rock steady first developed during the long hot Jamaican summer of 1966 and reigned supreme thereafter for two glorious years before finally being superseded by the more energetic style of reggae.

Despite its relatively brief period as the island’s national sound, the rhythms of many of its biggest hits have continued to influence and inspire music-makers to the present day, resulting in renewed interest in the sub-genre among record buyers in recent years.

This superb 2xLP vinyl collection features 28 of the most popular recordings of the rock steady era, including the UK hits, ‘007’, ‘Train To Skaville’ and ‘It Miek’ and The Maytals’ anthemic dance-filler, ’54 46 That’s My Number’.

Pressed on high quality 140gm vinyl and presented in a stylishly designed sleeve, the album not only provides the ideal introduction to this hugely popular and influential sound, but is also a must for established fans of the Jamaican sub-genre, with many of the tracks appearing on vinyl for the first time in decades.

  • Bacao Rhythm & Steel Band - 55 LP Big Crown Records

Bacao Rhythm & Steel Band - 55 LP Big Crown Records

    £26.99
Keeping in the tradition of steel drum records, 55 is a journey through re-interpolations and covers with an updated approach, pushing steel pan music to uncharted territory. Flawlessly bringing previously untouched genres into the steel pan cannon ranging from underground hip hop tunes to staple funk tracks and some of all that falls in between. From the popular remake of 50 Cents 'PIMP” to the DJ sure shot cover of Faith Evan’s “Love Like This,” BRSB’s 55 is reinvigorating tunes both well known and helping to shed some light on tunes still largely undiscovered. However, some of the strongest tunes on the album are original compositions, from spaced out disco vibes on “Beetham Highway Ride” and “Port Of Spain Hustle” to the ugly face inspiring drums of “Laventille Road March.” Recorded to analog eight track tape at The Mocambo Studios in Hamburg, 55 is a gritty, punchy journey in sound drawing on music from around the world, using production aesthetics from across both eras and genres, all coming together seamlessly.

  • Liam Bailey - Zero Grace | Big Crown Records LP / CD

Liam Bailey - Zero Grace | Big Crown Records LP / CD

    £22.99

Zero Grace is full of freedom and love, in fact, working with Leon Michels and Big Crown Records has encouraged Liam to be himself. On album opener “Holding On ” Bailey speaks to his observations & fears when looking out at the world in front of him and also to the dedication it has taken to get on the other side of his personal trials & tribulations. “Dance With Me” is an instantly infectious two-stepper that nods to those incredible soul records that were coming out of Jamaica during the early Reggae days. Bailey steps into the dance with hopes of finding a new love and pulls us all out on the dance floor with him. “Disorder Starts At Home” is another close to the chest tune that addresses the difficulties he struggles with from his early chaotic childhood and his progress in getting past them. “Mercy Tree” is a powerhouse of Reggae Rebel Music. Bailey addresses the racial tensions that plague humanity and encourages everyone to step up and do their part to help foster equality. What starts out as a declaration of injustice turns into a call for action and an inspiration for hope.

Bailey has managed another album that moves across genres but remains entirely cohesive. The title Zero Grace represents his uninhibited energy. He wears his heart on his sleeve, he speaks his mind without filters, and he has little concern for formalities where his ambitions are concerned. He won’t be held back ever. One thing is for sure, his talent speaks

  • Ghost Funk Orchestra - A Trip To The Moon LP/CD Karma Chief Records

Ghost Funk Orchestra - A Trip To The Moon LP/CD Karma Chief Records

    £24.99
Coming off the heels of 2022's A New Kind of Love, A Trip To The Moon sees GFO diving even deeper in the worlds of film music, exotica, and psychedelic surf rock. The aim is to create a layered and collaged listening experience with more elements than you could possibly pick out in a single listen. The guitars are fuzzy and flooded with spring reverb, and the horns are arranged in a studio big band fashion. It's full of big compositions with garage rock attitude. Influences range everywhere from Eddie Palmieri and Esquivel to The Lively Ones, Dusty Springfield, and War. The tracks are tied together by real recorded transmissions from the Apollo moon missions. The concept for the album is a story about a woman stranded on earth by her cosmonaut partner, left to ponder his whereabouts and whether or not he'll make it back from the cosmos alive.

  • Burial - Dreamfear / Boy Sent From Above 12" XL Recordings

Burial - Dreamfear / Boy Sent From Above 12" XL Recordings

    £14.99
"Dreamfear" is structured like a night out gone sideways. Breakbeats and samples about ecstasy rub shoulders with samples such as "your love is a drug," before an honestly kind of disturbing (and delightfully cheesy) nu-metal sample: "Back from the dead / Fucked up in the head" repeats over a groaning synth melody, like a nightmarish inversion of the angel-in-the-back-alleys reveries of early Burial. Everything sounds dirtier and fuzzier, and decades-old samples of The Prodigy and Richie Hawtin only add to the eerie feeling that you've been here before.
If "Dreamfear" is the bad trip, "Boy Sent From Above" is when the substances start to wear off and you can see and hear clearly again. Untrue-style R&B samples (Monica's "Angel Of Mine") float over a peppy breakbeat sample, eventually climaxing into a bleary-eyed synth horn refrain that hints at both '80s freestyle and early prog house—a swelling of conflicted emotion that feels like the work of a more mature Burial, a grizzled old raver rather than the misty-eyed bedroom poet of the old days. Both this one (and its crunchy ending) and "Dreamfear" have a narrative flow and easy cohesion that Burial has been aiming at for the last ten years but sometimes missing for the sake of pure ambition. They're like hardcore continuum versions of Brian Wilson's pocket symphonies spread out across lengthy slabs of amphetamine-frazzled beats that swoop in and out like fractured flashbacks.

  • Fela Kuti - Original Sufferhead LP Knitting Factory Records

Fela Kuti - Original Sufferhead LP Knitting Factory Records

    £23.99
 This edition of ‘Original Sufferhead’ is a major
event. With the release of ‘Box Set #5’, and now
on this reissue, the title track of this magnificent
album is presented in its full-length, 25 minutes, 24
    seconds glory.
 While preparing the master disc for the box set,
Partisan engineer Jedi, Colin Young, discovered
four minutes of ‘lost’ material on the B-side of the
original pressing, including a superb keyboard solo
by Fela. This had been omitted from subsequent
    reissues.
 The restored version used here starts and finishes
with Fela’s keyboard work, a typically venturesome
    blend of futurism and visceralism.
 ‘Original Sufferhead’ was the first album Fela
released with the name Egypt 80 (he had
    disbanded Afrika 70 in 1979).
 On the title track, arguing from the personal to the
political, Fela describes the inhuman treatment
and poor living conditions experienced by working
class Nigerians, the people he called ‘sufferheads’.
 In ‘Power Show’, Fela sings about the two-tier
system dividing Nigerian society, in which the rich
get treated one way and the poor another.
 LP pressed on ewuro (opaque light green) vinyl
and housed in a single sleeve jacket.
  • Fela Kuti - O.D.O.O. (Overtake Don Overtake Overtake) LP Knitting Factory Records

Fela Kuti - O.D.O.O. (Overtake Don Overtake Overtake) LP Knitting Factory Records

    £23.99
 ‘Overtake Don Overtake Overtake’ was the
penultimate album of newly recorded studio
material released by Fela before he passed in
    1997.
 Like its immediate predecessor, ‘Beasts Of No
Nation’ (also 1989), and its follow up,
‘Underground System’ (1992), the album finds Fela
continuing to campaign for human rights and social
change despite the relentless beatings, jailings
and general harassment he had received from
successive military regimes since the start of the
    1970s.
 LP pressed on alawọ ewe (transparent green)
vinyl, housed in a single sleeve jacket.
  • Fela Kuti - Ikoyi Blindness LP Knitting Factory Records

Fela Kuti - Ikoyi Blindness LP Knitting Factory Records

    £23.99
 Fela used the cover of ‘Ikoyi Blindness’ to announce
his change of middle name from Ransome, which he
now considered a slave name, to Anikulapo, which
means ‘he who carries death in his pouch.’ The front
cover shows Ransome crossed out and Anikulapo
    added above it.
 Fela also used the album cover to announce the
Africanisation of Africa 70’s name, changing it to Afrika
    70. In the title track, Fela draws attention to the
economic chasm separating the haves and have-nots
of Nigerian society, contrasting the get-rich-at-all-costs
mindset of the residents of the prosperous Lagos
suburb Ikoyi with the more community-minded attitude
of the poor inhabitants of the Mushin, Maroko,
Ajegunle and Somolu neighbourhoods. Ikoyi residents
are blind to the sufferings of less fortunate people, said
    Fela.
 Fela returns to the topic on the second track, ‘Gba Mi
Leti Ki N’Dolowo (Slap Me Make I Get Money)’. In
Lagos in 1975 and 1976, there had been an upsurge in
police and military personnel assaults on people in the
street; motorists were commonly pulled out of their
vehicles and given a whipping for minor traffic
offenses. Scandalously, the police and soldiers were
being allowed to get away with corruption in broad
daylight. In the lyric, Fela demands that the judiciary
administer the law equally, without fear or favour.
 LP pressed on iresi (opaque white) vinyl housed in a
    single sleeve jacket.
  • Congo Natty - Jungle Revolution • 10th Anniversary Edition LP Big Dada

Congo Natty - Jungle Revolution • 10th Anniversary Edition LP Big Dada

    £30.00
 Congo Natty aka Rebel MC has a career dating back to his early hit with Double Trouble, ‘Street Tuff’, but is probably most respected as one of the pioneers of Jungle - perhaps the first uniquely UK born bass music.
 ‘Jungle Revolution’ features Benny Page (on the straight up ragga-jungle of ‘UK Allstars’), Vital Elements (the 150bpm anthem ‘Jah Warriors’ and ‘Jungle Is I and I’), Serial Killaz (the pure roots bounce and rinse out of ‘Get Ready’) and Boyson & Crooks (creeping technoid paranoia on ‘London Dungeons’) and was mixed with Adrian Sherwood.
 The LP clearly lays out the way in which Congo Natty sees Jungle as a re-boot of roots reggae for a new century. Full of blood and fire, the sternumbuzz of sub-bass, rapid fire drum breaks, sweet hooks, righteous anger and professions of love, it’s the kind of passionate, committed, raw and spiritual, beautiful record that doesn’t come along that often.
 Originally released in June 2013, this 10th anniversary edition comprises yellow and green coloured double vinyl cased in a reflective goldsle sleeve with the same artwork as the original.
    Download code included.
 For fans of Barrington Levy, General Levy, Benny Page, Shy FX, David Rodigan, Tenor Fly.
  • Parly B - Lyrics Spree LP Scotch Bonnet

Parly B - Lyrics Spree LP Scotch Bonnet

    £18.99
For half a decade, Doncaster deejay Parly B has been a fixture of the UK and international sound system scene. His first album on Glasgow’s Scotch Bonnet Records, Lyrics Spree, builds on 2016’s EP 'This Is Digital’.
Blessed with a voice as deep as Bounty Killer’s, a crowing gimmick reminiscent of the great Dennis Alcapone and a bottomless bag of verbosity, Parly is the complete microphone talker. He rides a shopping trolley load of digital rhythms by likeminded producers – including Danny T & Tradesman, Stalawa, Interrupt and Mungo’s Hi Fi – ranging from upbeat celebratory skanks to sweltering body winds.
Tracks include the exuberant 80s vibes of the title tune, the brass-driven UK sound of You Mi A Look featuring fellow Mungo’s mic man Charlie P, and the moody reality chant Skylark. Lyrics Spree is infectious, verbally dexterous dancehall, spraying lyricism in your direction…

Liam Bailey - Dance With Me / Mercy Tree 7" Big Crown Records

    £8.99
Liam Bailey returns with a flawless two-sider from his new album's recording sessions. The tried and true chemistry between Bailey and producer Leon Michels strikes again, taking the sound they established on Bailey's 2020 Ekundayo album and pushing it further.
The A side "Dance With Me" is an infectious Popcorn two-stepper that nods to those incredible soul records that were coming out of Jamaica during the early Reggae days. Bailey steps into the dance with hopes of finding a new love while the El Michels Affair produced track will pull us all out on the dance floor with them.
The B side "Mercy Tree" is a powerhouse of Reggae Rebel Music. Bailey addresses the racial tensions that plague humanity and encourages everyone to step up and do their part to help foster equality. What starts out as a declaration of injustice turns into a call for action and an inspiration for hope, making this anthemic tune an instant classic.
