Back in 2016, producer Seth Applebaum released two EPs that marked the inauguration of the band Ghost Funk Orchestra. ‘Night Walker’ and ‘Death Waltz’ were conceived as one-man-band, reel-to-reel tape recorded experiments that would bring together elements of all the sounds that Seth most adored at the time: tape-saturated drums, gratuitous spring reverb, surfy guitar, Latin-style percussion, odd time signatures, and Spanish-language female vocals. Initially released only in the digital domain and on a short run of cassette tapes, these two EPs that defined the early era of GFO are now finally available together on a single LP via Colemine Records. The tracks have been lovingly remastered by Doug Krebs. We invite you to take a dive into the humble beginnings of a project that has continued to grow, shape shift, and accrue new and exciting sounds for its sonic palette.

Soom T aka “The Raggamuffin Queen” presents her sixth studio album “The Louder The Better”. A combination of live band studio recordings and digital compositions, it took only 3 years to fully realize from the very first live band recordings in Brazil during the 2020 pandemic to its release this year. Entirely self-produced with her own music label Renegade Masters with Kunta as executive producer, Soom T called on her most trusted collaborators to produce this new Reggae/Dub gem, and it’s sunnier than ever.

Originally released in 2018 on Undisputed Records, "The One Love Family" is Skarra Mucci's 7th studio album. While conceptualizing Switched-On, Pachyman gravitated to Lovers Rock-era reggae and the iconic Studio One. Yet the album also pays homage to the era where musicians began manipulating synthesizers for gloriously off-kilter bleeps and bloops. The title of the album and first track refers to an incident in 1974. The Nigerian police planted a joint on Kuti. Before he was arrested, he ate the joint, but the police brought him into custody and waited for him to produce the (titular) excrement. According to legend, he managed to use another inmate's feces and was eventually released..

'Water No Get Enemy' is inspired by a Yoruban proverb about the power of nature and the universe.

The song (Sorrow, Tears And Blood) was written in the wake of a raid on Kuti's Kalakuta Republic compound by 1,000 armed members of the Nigerian army on February 18, 1977. The scene is described in his lyrics, "Everybody run, run, run / Everybody scatter, scatter / Some people lost some bread / Some people just die ... Them leave sorrow, tears, and blood / Them regular trademark".

The second composition (Colonial Mentality) is titled after the inferiority complex called colonial mentality, and whose lyrics list a range of examples of "things dem dey do, dem dey overdo all the things dem dey do" such as "think wey black no good, na foreign things dem dey like" and "dem go turn air condition, and close them country away" no be so?.

By 1972, when Music of Fela: Roforofo Fight was originally released (on two vinyl albums, Music of Fela Volume One and Volume Two), Fela was becoming one of the most avidly followed musicians in West Africa. His audience came from among the region's urban poor, the ""sufferheads"" living in the shanty towns around the major cities, along with growing numbers of students and political dissenters. Fela championed, and sang about the problems of, oppressed and exploited people and denounced the ruling elites lording it over them, with their seemingly endemic corruption and their ready use of violence to crush dissent. Because he generally sang in Broken English rather than Yoruba, and adopted an increasingly pan-Africanist outlook, his message resonated throughout Anglophone Africa.

I was sent hundreds of pieces of music over a couple of years.”

Releasing on Big Crown Records, the LP is called Glorious Game and it is a remarkable debut partnership in more ways than one. Michels provides his bottom-heavy, soul-tinged production for Black Thought who gives us some of the more personal and transparent verses we've ever heard from him.

Superhero? Supervillain? Super WHAT? CZARFACE & MF DOOM's newest team-up record Super What? is, much like the Avengers' arch-enemy Thanos...inevitable (and all-powerful!). The icon MF DOOM unleashes his wizardry and wordplay throughout the record, while CZARFACE (bolstered by the legendary Wu-Tang Clan's Inspectah Deck and Esoteric) slash through each of the Czar-Keys' produced tracks as the team raises the bar on their previous LP, Czarface meets Metalface (2018). 'Escapology’ - Kode9's first album since 2015's ‘Nothing’ – is the first audio document of a wider project, Astro-Darien, ongoing since last year. His most ambitious work yet as a multi-disciplinary artist, ‘Escapology’ is the soundtrack album to the sonic fiction Astro-Darien, which will be released in October on Hyperdub’s sub-label Flatlines.

KMD (Kausing Much Damage, or a positive Kause in a Much Damaged society) was a Hip Hop group in the early 90s perhaps best known for launching the career of acclaimed MC/Producer MF DOOM (known during his KMD tenure as Zev Love X). After guesting on 3rd Bass The Gas Face, the trio (Zev, brother Subroc, and Onyx) released the acclaimed and overlooked Mr. Hood full-length. Their political outlook was similar to the group Brand Nubian, who guested on Hood; however, the style was more comical and included a great deal of clips from old childrens recordings, mostly notably a sample of the Seaseme Street character Bert on the single Who Me? Cutting edge, ahead of its time production and skits from KMD and Stimulated Dummies (John Gamble and Mr. Dante Ross). Features the singles Peachfuzz, Who Me? and Nitty Gritty (feat. Brand Nubian). This is one Rap album that is not to be missed.

'Who Want's Some?' is a killer 'pon killer 1969-70 Boss Sounds selection sharply complied to shine the spotlight on Striker Lee's groundbreaking Agro sounds.

SunDub is a Brooklyn-based five piece who expertly mixes classic reggae alongside soul and blues.

The band is a testament to the power of inclusion, diversity, and unity - core values that were showcased on SunDub's debut album, Burden of Love (2019).

That album racked up millions of streams and brought the band to the attention of their hometown reggae label, Easy Star Records, who picked up the band and has been working with them on this sophomore effort.

This release is even stronger than the debut, with Sidney Mills (of Steel Pulse) working closely with the band to co-produce and co-write much of the material.

The album features collaborations with Jamaican superstar Lutan Fyah as well as Peetah Morgan from the GRAMMY-winning Morgan Heritage.

Return Of The Super Ape was the final revelation from Lee Perry's Black Ark Studio, a psychedelicized dub journey into uncharted sonic territories.

Legendary artist MF DOOM (aka Zev Love X of KMD) opened up a lyrical wormhole when he returned as the interdimensional MC, Viktor Vaughn, delivering one of his most unique releases in a career packed with distinction. Vaudeville Villain is a concept album with plenty of high comedy, street technology and hijinks, splashed artfully over next-school beats that move freely in spaces between Electronica and Hip Hop, all courtesy of Sound-Ink producers King Honey, Heat Sensor and Max Bill, with the exception of one track produced by RJD2. As the story of Vaudeville Villain goes, a time-travel mishap left Viktor Vaughn stuck in early 90s NYC with no choice but to battle other MCs and carry out side-hustles in order to repair his time machine and get back to the future. All tracks feature original lyrics by DOOM, with a few notable guest appearances from M. Sayyid (Anti-Pop Consortium), Lord Sear, Apani B Fly MC, Louis Logic, and more.

Originally scheduled for release back in 1994 but scrapped due to controversial cover art, K.M.D.'s follow-up to their debut Mr. Hood was considered to be one of the Holy Grail records in the annals of hip-hop history. The death of group member Sub-Roc in a car accident squashed the future of K.M.D. shortly after it was recorded. Employing ideals and samples from the album The Blue Guerilla by Kain of the Last Poets, the tone of this record was to be dramatically different than their first, which was lighthearted and playful while still spreading a message about racial stereotypes. Volatile yet poignant tracks like "What a Ni__a Know" and "Bl_ck B_st_rds!" are hip-hop fireballs. Subjects like alcoholism ("Sweet Premium Wine"), drug use ("Smokin' That S*#%"), and women ("Plumskinzz") were all touched upon with incendiary tones. The sound of the record is very raw and sounds unfinished due to Elektra shelving the project, but it doesn't take away from the magic that would have made this a suitable follow-up.

Pete Rock is widely recognised as one of the greatest hip hop producers of all time. His name is oft included in the pantheon of the greatest, alongside DJ Premier, RZA and J Dilla. In addition, Pete has one of the world's most extensive vinyl collections, the sort of collection whose size can only be estimated, and that estimate stands in excess of 100,000 LPs. In 2019 Rock launched his own imprint, Tru Soul Records, with the release of Return Of The SP-1200 which debuted exclusively on RSD 2019. ‘There is no Acid in this House’ is Hieroglyphic Being’s stunning third solo album on Soul Jazz Records, a resolute and powerful statement of Jamal Moss’s raw, vital, pioneering, Afro-Futurist electronic (dance) music - full of twisted pulsating acid house, machines and ambience.

On his new album Moss once-again draws upon the vast scope of experimentation that has defined Chicago’s musical universe over the last half a century – from the birth of house music with the pioneers Ron Hardy, Marshall Jefferson, Lil Louis and others to the radical avant-garde jazz legacy of the city - The Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians, The Art Ensemble of Chicago and Sun Ra.

Chicago’s musical universe continues to push-further forward today with artists such as Hieroglyphic Being, Angel Bat Dawid, Makaya McCraven, and labels such as International Anthem label and Hieroglyphic Being’s own Mathematics, all continuing to explore radical new music while drawing upon the city’s decidedly Afro-futurist lineage.

Jamal Moss, aka Hieroglyphic Being, remains at all-times a radical one-off musical explorer, a resolute pioneer of an avant-garde dance music aesthetic taking lineage from the founding fathers of acid house such as Ron Hardy and Adonis, and pushing the musical form to its own limits, adding his own harder almost industrial edge to this unique sound, which Moss sometimes describes as ‘Outsider House’ or, referencing the earlier avant-garde musical resident and pioneer, Sun Ra - ‘Rhythmic Cubism’ and ‘Cosmic Be-Bop’.

Hieroglyphic Being’s music crosses many boundaries and has led to remixes of a wide and diverse list of artists from St Vincent to Hans-Joachim Roedelius (the pioneering German electronic composer and member of Cluster), King Gizzard and the Lizard Gizzard to Adonis and many more. In similar fashion his music has appeared on Ghostly/Spectral, Warp, Ninja, Axis and his own Mathematics Recordings.

Jamal Moss first began working with Soul Jazz Records in 2015 and has released two solo albums (‘The Acid Documents’ in 2015, ‘The Red Notes’ in 2018) as well as a third album under the guise of Africans with Mainframes (with Nolan Reusse in 2017).

As Warp Records longest serving signing, Nightmares On Wax has been consistently at the forefront of contemporary music, creating A Unique Blend Of Electronica, Jazz, Hip-Hop, Dub, Funk, Soul and Techno.

Although nine albums in, he may have only just truly stepped into his own groove. Lockdown forced a change of pace and offered some time for meaningful reflection and introspection. 

Evelyn already had the wheels in motion for making a collaborative album with a variety of guests but now he took this personal element and asked them to run with it.

As a result, he formed creative bonds with new and upcoming talent that slotted in nicely with both the history and evolution of N.O.W.. The likes of Shabaka Hutchings, Haile Supreme, Mara TK, Sabrina Mahfouz. Greentea Peng, OSHUN and Pip Millett all
Feature on the album.

Rewind Dubs label, The first release is a reissue of Cultivator's classic CD album 'Voice of Love', released in 2003 and remastered for LP Vinyl. This reissue is limited to 300 copies and is a tribute to the band's frontman Ras Dasher, who sadly passed away last year.
